'Andy Maitland, The Digital Garden® 2018, iPad drawings with Augmented Reality, Royal Horticultural Society Garden, Wisley'.

'A collaboration with Wisley - the RHS’s flagship garden - to bring a specially designed exhibition entitled “The Digital Garden® to their Glasshouse Gallery and gardens. This is an indoor and outdoor interactive art experience of iPad drawings.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) welcomes more than two million visitors each year to four gardens across the UK, including Wisley in Surrey, one of the world’s great gardens. The RHS is also known across the world for the Chelsea Flower Show held in London every year.

On display for the first time are cinematic scale iPad drawings of garden flowers one and two metres high, with some drawn across multiple-iPad canvases.

All ages can interact with the artworks to see each of the iPad drawings come alive. Visitors can watch how artworks were made, mark for mark, using their smart phones or tablets with AR and a free app.

The Digital Garden® includes artworks "planted" around the garden amongst flower beds. Visitors can discover The Digital Garden® trail and use their smart phones or tablets to watch animated artworks of digital flowers growing where flowers are presently in bud and are still to bloom.

"Visitors can see how each of the iPad drawings was made, mark for mark, using their phones with AR and a free app".

Drop-in chat and live drawing sessions form part of the visitor experience. Visitors can learn about how The Digital Garden® was made, hear about creative process and see some live drawings being created. Visitors can also bring their own iPads to draw alongside the artist'.

Abstraction is referential, creation is observational. Abstract art requires no reference, it is non referential. Figurative art is clearly derived from real object sources.
A precursor to this book was first produced as an ephemeral digital Novella, compiled of chapters, it was available for view online through 2020-21, now superseded by this new perpetual work.
