Hockney’s Woldgate woods series, this painting is one of ten, are a master class in sublime observation, editing and creativity.
Late in July I spent a few hours in London enjoying Hockney’s work. This was the third time I’ve seen this painting first-hand (my first viewing was in 2012 at the RA). This occasion was a visual feast - and I gleaned much. This and the other pictures in this series are epic. Hockney’s picture of Woldgate woods is on show now at the Annely Juda gallery in London.
