'The Digital Garden®' an interactive installation of iPad drawings with augmented reality (AR) at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, UK’. May-June 2018.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) welcomes more than 2 million visitors each year to four gardens across the UK, including Wisley in Surrey, one of the world’s great gardens. The RHS is also known for the Chelsea Flower Show held in London every year.

A collaborate with Wisley - the RHS’s flagship garden - to bring a specially designed exhibition called “The Digital Garden® to their Glasshouse Gallery and gardens. This was an indoor and outdoor interactive art experience.

This was an indoor and outdoor interactive art experience. On display for the first time were cinematic scale iPad drawings of garden flowers, one and two metres high and some drawn across two iPad canvases. All ages could interact with the artworks and see iPad drawings come alive.

Visitors could watch how artworks were made, mark for mark, using their phones, tablets and AR.

’The Digital Garden®’ included artworks ‘planted’ around the garden amongst flower beds. Visitors could discover ‘The Digital Garden®’ trail and use their smart phones or tablets to watch animated artworks of digital flowers growing where flowers were in bud or still to bloom.

Drop-in chat and live drawing sessions formed part of the visitor experience. Visitors could learn about how ‘The Digital Garden®’ was made, chat about creative process and see some live drawings being drawn.
